SEO Terms (credit game)
« on: March 26, 2009, 11:32:15 am »
In this game you will be able to earn credits by giving a definition to a SEO term posted in the previous post. After you have given the definition you write another SEO term for others to define.

Here's an example:

Define: SEO

I define:
SEO - search engine optimization. It consists in optimizing a web page so it ranks well in search engine results pages (serp).

Define: Backlink
If you moved with a speed higher than the speed of light, you would arrive at the destination before you started to move.

Pagerank - PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important".

Define : SERP Rank

PageRank Technology: PageRank reflects our view of the importance of web pages by considering more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms. Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results.
PageRank also considers the importance of each page that casts a vote, as votes from some pages are considered to have greater value, thus giving the linked page greater value. We have always taken a pragmatic approach to help improve search quality and create useful products, and our technology uses the collective intelligence of the web to determine a page's importance.
