Talk about your experiences with hosting companies, both bad and good.....

First the bad list:
ASO (a small orange) - use to have the best tech support 5 years ago, now is constantly down, takes forever to get things fixed, etc...
Hostgator - never know when it's going to be down, sometimes so slow it's painful... then again, you're paying practically nothing
..... luckily the 3 other hosts i've been with who I left because of poor service are no longer in business..

The good ones:
for shared hosting:
vectorlevel - still a small company, dirt cheap prices on brand new servers with hardly anyone on them... great tech support too

VPS -
Slicehost + linenode - i've had vps accounts on both, linode uses xen and gives u a little more ram for your money, but oddly enough, slicehost always seemed faster. I'd recommend both in a heartbeat for anyone looking to make the move from a shared hosting environment to a VPS account

Dedicated Host - Un-managed -
Softlayer - can't beat the prices, can't beat the support for setup + emergencies.... Currently have two servers hosted with them, about to add a third.
